You’re already attached to the old dings and dents in your wallpaper, and you know where all the pots and pans are in your kitchen. image16 The 5 Worst Computer Virus Attacks of All TimeIt’s just another day as you slide into your seat and hit the start button on your computer. You guzzle coffee as you wait for your system to start up, and bam! Your stomach drops as you stare at the deep indigo colored screen. It’s not a folk tale, it’s not an urban legend…it’s the blue screen of death. (BSOD) Yikes. There goes your day.

Windows XP SP3 RC and HD Audio Problems

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

hd audio I was recently playing around with Windows XP SP3 (build 3264) and I slipstreamed the service pack into my Windows XP install media to make installing a new build easier (SP3 would already be installed).

Normally, it’s a pretty straightforward process, however with SP3 (at least the RC build I was using) didn’t take HD audio into account.

When you’re installing onto a PC (Lenovo R60 laptop in my case) you typically need to install an HD Audio hotfix (KB888111) prior to installing the HD audio drivers.

The issue in this case it that SP3 supercedes the hotfix, so when you try to install KB888111 you’re presented with an error saying SP3 is newer and you don’t need the hotfix.  Unfortunately, you can’t install the drivers without the hotfix, and you can’t install the hotfix because SP3 thinks it’s newer and doesn’t need it.  This is supposed to be fixed in the final release of SP3.

Microsoft’s New Blogging Tool

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

LiveWriter_thumb Microsofts New Blogging Tool I just recently came across Microsoft’s new blogging client, Live Writer, which allows you to create blog posts to multiple blogging accounts offline, and synchronize, or publish, them your blogs.

The biggest advantage to this is you get full WYSIWYG functionality, and a much bigger area to write your posts.

You also have the added benefit of being able to insert pictures quickly and adjust as needed. There are of course other products on the market that do very similar things, some that integrate directly into your browser, like the Firefox plugin scribefire.

You can download Microsoft’s Live Writer from their website. Although it’s still in beta, it seems to have all the features most people would be looking for.
